Ryan Thibodeaux to speak at Platform Security Summit

Star Lab, the industry leader in software security for embedded systems, announced today that it will speak at the 2018 Xen Project’s Platform Security Summit in Fairfax, Virginia on May 23rd and 24th. In addition to speaking at the conference, Star Lab will also be available for side-sessions to provide product overviews, run demonstrations, and answer questions.

According to the Xen Project, the Platform Security Summit is applicable to anyone that is working on commercial, academic or open-source projects which use OpenXT, Xen Project or OpenEmbedded to implement platform components with well-defined security properties. A wide variety of topics will be presented, including virtualization-based isolation of open, proprietary, and restricted code; mixed-criticality system design, testing and safety certification; scheduling; hardware partitioning and hypervisor nesting; hardware-rooted security technologies (e.g. TPM, TEE, SGX); Spectre/Meltdown mitigations performance & security; and Mandatory Access Control (e.g. SE Linux, Xen Security Modules).

Ryan Thibodux, Star Lab’s VP of Customer Relations, has over 10 years of experience in applied research and product development, including efforts for the US Government, defense industry, and enterprise networks. His talk, Tailoring Xen to Support Critical Systems, will explore why and how Star Lab leverages OpenEmbedded, Yocto, tboot, and Xen to provide a secure embedded virtualization platform, with a particular focus on processing determinism, resource isolation, and runtime integrity. The audience will see how the tailored use of Xen provides the flexibility of virtualization to operational technology (OT) domains, where performance and security are paramount concerns for deployments.

Jonathan Kline, Star Lab’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO), commented that “the Platform Security Summit presents another great opportunity for Star Lab to educate the open source community on offensive and defensive software security. In addition to educating developers and architects, Star Lab will also showcase its embedded operating system / application hardening products and secure tactical virtualization technologies to industry partners and potential end use customers.”
