PRESS RELEASE – STAR LAB TO SPEAK AT THE EMBEDDED LINUX CONFERENCE IN PORTLAND, OREGON

Star Lab, the industry leader in software security for embedded systems, announced today that it will speak at the Linux Foundation’s (LF’s) Embedded Linux Conference (ELC) and OpenIoT Summit held in Portland, Oregon on March 12th-14th. In addition to speaking at the conference, Star Lab will have a booth in the sponsor showcase area where it will provide product overviews, run demonstrations and answer questions.

According to the Linux Foundation, ELC is the premier vendor-neutral technical conference for companies and developers using Linux in embedded products. Now in its 13th year, the conference gathers user-space developers, product vendors, kernel and systems developers to collaborate. OpenIoT Summit, which runs concurrently with ELC, is a technical event created to serve the unique needs of system architects, firmware developers, software developers and application developers in this emerging IoT ecosystem.

Jonathan Creekmore, a Star Lab Embedded Systems / Security Software Engineer with over 17 years of experience, will present “Easy, Reproducible, VM Building for Isolating Applications” on Monday, March 12th. Embedded virtualization benefits the IoT device manufacturer by providing strong isolation guarantees between application service components; yet, creating VMs is harder than lumping all of your services into one execution environment, so virtualization tends to not be used. In his presentation, Jonathan will explain how to easily convert existing Docker containers into VM images that can be booted under the Xen hypervisor.

Michael Ring, Star Lab’s VP of Products, commented that “the ELC / OpenIoT Summit presents another great opportunity for Star Lab to educate the Linux community on offensive and defensive software security. In addition to educating developers and architects, Star Lab will also showcase its embedded operating system / application hardening products and secure tactical virtualization technologies to industry partners and potential end use customers.”
