Star Lab Announces Launch of Kevlar System Inspector

Washington D.C — April 19, 2023 — Star Lab Corp®, a global leader in delivering embedded security solutions for mission-critical systems, announced the release of Kevlar System Inspector: a free test suite that examines the inherent security of intelligent devices and IoT systems to help identify and encourage secure-by-default designs.

Described as “a different kind of vulnerability identification,” Kevlar System Inspector delivers a detailed assessment that identifies criticalities in an embedded Linux environment, inspecting case-by-case and test-by-test for a myriad of issues ranging from Kernel Configuration to Application Allowlisting and Integrity, library and data integrity at rest, and more.

“Kevlar System Inspector puts the power in the hands of the developers and engineers that sit closest to the security problems to be solved and innovations to be spurred,” says Adam Fraser, COO of Star Lab. “Patching CVE’s simply isn’t enough. Engineers need the tools to allow them to implement security early, quickly and easily.  Being armed with the right information is powerful, and we wanted to make sure that our tool could get in the hands of those that have acutely experienced the reverberating effects from the cost of compromise.”

“At Star Lab, we pride ourselves in designing and deploying solutions with one key differentiator in mind: that the attacker has root-level access,” says Gabriel Quiroz, Star Lab’s General Manager. “We firmly believe that Kevlar System Inspector is a sophisticated, comprehensive way to assess your system for weaknesses in the embedded space.”

While Kevlar System Inspector produces a set of passed and failed test cases for engineers and developers to share within their teams, the test output also provides further context on the implications if a system isn’t innately secure through all recommended facets. Full coverage of all these test cases and Linux security nuances are addressed by Star Lab’s Kevlar Embedded Security solution, which provides a layered approach to embedded Linux security helping to encourage and enable defense-in-depth.

“Device makers and IoT system designers continue to feel the pressure to address the ever-growing complexities in their security landscape. Star Lab has been uniquely positioned to defend applications and systems against some of the most malicious of nation-state adversaries. We are confident when we say that it is not only important, but it is absolutely necessary that organizations go beyond many of the current standards and regulations in place today when securing their devices and systems,” says Jonathan Kline, CTO of Star Lab.

Kevlar System Inspector can be accessed at no cost through Star Lab’s website. For more information regarding Kevlar System Inspector, or Kevlar Embedded Security, please contact us.
